Workbench Approach to Reviewing

We look at a multitude of factors when reviewing how well a toy performs. For 2026, we noticed a huge influx of AI written reviews simply regurgitating manufacturer specs and rewording their copywriter's descriptions. By taking direct measurements, we ensure that we never go that direction, and that we can be a beacon of Integrity for people to make informed purchase decisions.

What is the Workbench Verified Seal?

Our Seal quickly shows that a product meets our criteria for review, and is worthy of your consideration.

If we get a product that needs significant improvement, we communicate directly with the manufacturers with our feedback and wait until the next version is released. This lets us only bring you reviews we’re happy with, and helps the industry produce better and safer products. We are re-testing all of our toys and will be adding the seals soon!

Testing Methodology

We typically plan out our reviews quite far in advance. As of March 2026, we have collaborated with 24 different manufacturers from around the world. Each of them are listed on our trusted partners page, with secure payment, shipping to most countries, and have been vetted for quality. Sometimes we purchase products ourselves, sometimes we are sent toys in exchange for reviews. We do use affiliate links with a disclosure statement on every page. We use the small commissions we receive to cover website costs, purchasing more toys to review, and save for larger items like Sex Swings and Sex Furniture.

For any products that don’t meet our standards of quality, we reach out directly to the manufacturers with our concerns, and in many cases they make changes especially on pre-release items. In cases where we receive products 4-8 weeks in advance of public release, we share detailed feedback so only the best iterations come to market.

We also conduct Alpha, Beta, and think tank testing and discussions with various manufactures to help bring the latest and greatest to market. We are held to strict confidentiality agreements, and we will never break that earned trust.

We’ve been growing and evolving since launching our website, and any older reviews missing some of these are scheduled for updated photo sessions, updated information, and a long term use update section. We don’t just let our toys and reviews collect dust in the corner!

Physical Measurements

We invested in a set of calibrated digital calipers to get exact measurements to record exact widths, lengths, and penetration depths to ensure you have all the data you need. As we continue to bring more products across the Workbench, we will create a comparison space to see what works best for you.

Actual Product Weight

We have a calibrated scale to record the exact weight of any product that comes across our Workbench. This is useful for travelers, or anyone concerned with how heavy a toy may be.

Material Analysis

We do our homework to determine if a toy is made from body-safe materials. We also periodically update our reviews with long term use data, so even if you come back a year from now, there will always be relevant and helpful information.

Decibel Measurements to ISO Adapted Standards

This is something that very few reviewers have done until recently. We researched ISO standards for sound pressure level testing, and developed an Internal Operation Procedure to measure any products we receive. Our standards include an ambient reading before testing, temperature, humidity, lowest and highest recorded sound levels at both 30cm and 100cm. The room we use is acoustically treated to minimize sound transfer, including dual layer drywall, decoupled ceiling, and all walls and ceiling are insulated with RockWool. The floor has cork underlay and is also acoustically treated.

Smart Feature Analysis

We download any relevant apps and test how they work with the smart products that come across our Workbench. If there is a PC version we will test that as well. Typically we give a high level overview on how it works, connectivity speed, and any issues we run into. Every one of our Trusted Brands actively asks for feedback or writeups to share with their engineering and technical development teams. They genuinely want to produce a good product, and part of that is RMTR following through with our commitment to honesty, sharing our thoughts for improvement with our contacts.

High Quality Photos and 360 Videos

We invested in a large 100cmx100cmx100cm illuminated photo box so we can take better quality photos. While we enjoyed the bath towel over a chair approach, we have a commitment to quality to uphold, and that doesn’t cut it any more. We also picked up a rotating platform so we can record 360 degree videos of products that come wo the Workbench. We’re working out the details on a dedicated video hosting service so the clips load quickly for mobile users, so keep an eye out for our video launches!

Comparison Tool - The Pleasure Gear Shakedown

In backpacking, a shakedown is when you lay out all your gear and determine what comes with you, what gets to stay behind, and a short test hike to make sure your pack is at its best.

With our new comparison tool, we show you our raw testing data, include Rocky’s Rating for easy reference, and make sure that your load out of pleasure gear is right for you. We shoulder the weight of that test hike, and make sure you make the best educated choice possible for your next purchase.
